A proposed bridge connecting Long Island to Connecticut that's long been the subject of regional speculation was back on the agenda Tuesday, March 3 in the Connecticut State Capitol. The 14-mile proposed span from Kings Park, NY, to Bridgeport, CT., would cost around $50 billion. Currently, commuters from Long Island to Connecticut face either a one-hour ferry ride or an approximately two-hour drive. The most recent in a series of Long Island to Connecticut bridge studies was conducted by New York in 2017. That study considered several different options, including the Kings Park to Bridgeport path. But nothing ever came of the 82-page report. A 14-mile bridge would be one of the longest over water in the U.S.
Lincoln’s Take: Always an interesting speculation, the bridge from Long Island to Connecticut would be a traffic changing event. From an economic standpoint I think Connecticut could stand to benefit more as the proposal has it landing in Bridgeport. Traffic relief could be tremendous on the LIE as there really is one way in and out of Long Island by road. Not sure if everyone wants to give up their waterfront views for a bridge. Much less at $50 Billion Dollar bridge.
